Akasya




Akasya, Pink acacia, Rain tree
Samanea saman
Leguminosae

Large spreading tree with a dark bark, growing to a height of 35 meters. The leaves are doubly compound. The flowers are whitish with pink tips and the pods are 15 to 20 cm long. A native of tropical America, it is now widespread in the tropics including the Philippines. It is commonly planted in parks and roadsides for shade. The wood is used for furniture and general construction.
