Tree growing to 17 m in height with a trunk up to 1 m in diameter. The numerous leaves are up to 7 m long. The leaflets are green and arranged in one plane. The fruit is like a date, 1.5 cm in diameter, yellow to reddish. A native of the Canary Islands, it was introduced in the Philippines in the early 20th century and is planted in some roadsides and gardens.
