Balimbing





Balimbing, Star-fruit
Averrhoa carambola
Oxalidaceae

Small tree that grows to 6 m high, with compound leaves. The flowers are small, reddish purple, and grow on the trunk and branches. The fruit is star-shaped in cross section, fresh green, fleshy, juicy and edible. Propably a native of India and Indonesia (botanists are not certain), it was introduced in the Philippines for its edible fruit.
