Kakawate

Kakawate, Madre kakaw
Gliricidia sepium
Leguminosae




Small tree that grows to 10 m in height. The leaves are compounded and up to 25 cm long. The flowers are numerous, pink or pale violet, and clustered along the stems of fallen leaves. The pods are flats and up to 14 cm long. A native of Mexico, it was introduced to the Philippines during the early Spanish period.
