Medium-sized deciduous tree with spreading branches that grows to 20 meters in height. The leaves are compound, with 7 to 9 leaflets growing in whorls. The leaflets are 10 to 18 cm long. The flowers are crimson, with a fetid odor. The fruit is a woody rounded pod which hangs in clusters and contains 10 to 15 shiny seeds. Indigenous to East Africa, India, Northern Australia and South East Asia including the Philippines, where it is widespread.
