Medium-sized tree that grows to 15 m. The leaves are compound, with up to 7 pairs of leaflets. The flowers are small, white and fragrant. The fruit is oblong, yellow and 2 cm long. A native of India and Burma, it is now widespread in the Philippines and has become naturalized. The wood is used for light construction. It is somewhat similar to the bagalunga (Melia azedarach), whose leaves are doubly compound.
