Chico





Chico, Tsiko, Sapodilla
Manilkara sapota (syn. M. achras)
Sapotaceae

Medium-sized tree that grows to 15 m, with shiny green leaves to 12 cm long. The flowers are small and brownish. The fruit is round, rusty-brown, fleshy and edible. The pulp is gritty and sweet, and has a pleasant smell. The chico is a native of Mexico and was introduced in the Philippines during Spanish times. It is now widely cultivated throughout the country.
