Coconut

Coconut, Niyog
Cocos nucifera
Palmae

An erect palm that grows to 25 m high, and needs no introduction. It is probably a native of the Western Pacific, and since the nut floats and can cross oceans, it is widespread throughout the tropics. It is one of the most important agricultural crops in the Philippines. It yields timber, food, drinks, alcohol, vinegar, thatching materials, oil, and many other products.
