A magnificent fan palm that can grow to a height of 10 m, with a large, heavy crown of blue-green leaves. The trunk is stout and clean. The fruits are about 3 cm across and brown when ripe. A native of Madagascar, it is a popular palm planted throughout the tropics as an ornamental. It was recently introduced in the Philippines.
