Guava

Guava, Bayabas, Tayabas
Psidium guajava
Myrtaceae

Small tree that grows to 8 m high, with drooping limbs. The young branches are 4-angled. The leaves measure 6 to 14 cm. The flowers are white and the fruit is roundish, yellow when ripe, and edible. A native of tropical America, it was introduced in the Philippines during the early Spanish period for its fruit, and is now widely cultivated. Varieties with large fruits (Guava Java or guapple) were recently introduced.
